Railway Logistics: Track Transport

We recently completed a tricky rail track move for a Somerset based railway museum.

We were originally contacted earlier this year by the museum (based in Yeovil) after being donated a whopping 220 metres of redundant track. Our task was to transport the tracks / rails from sidings located at an oil terminal in Chichester, West Sussex down to the west country.

A contract lift was required, as is often the case in the rail industry, but a delay, followed by a rather rain-induced change of conditions meant that we revised our contract lift RAMS and had to hire in an operated 23ton, 360 tracked excavator with lifting capabilities.

The excavator meant that the track panels were lifted and relocated to a tarmac area for our Artic Hiab to then safely load itself, and 2 other flatbed Artics.

The onward journey was to Yeovil Somerset where the same fleet (minus tracked excavator), and our lifting team offloaded and placed in an agreed storage area ready for use.

The happy recipient commented “Hi Andy, Thank you to you and your team for a good job done well. Regards, Rob.”
