Sustainable Transport & Responsible Operations
At Sussex Transport, sustainability is not a slogan, it’s a practical responsibility we take seriously across our transport, lifting, warehousing, and training operations.
As a long-established logistics provider, we recognise the impact our industry has on the environment, and we continually invest in technology, training and processes that help us reduce emissions, minimise waste, and operate more efficiently.
While we are not announcing fixed Net Zero dates, we are committed to aligning our efforts with the UK’s wider decarbonisation goals and adopting new technologies as they become viable within the logistics and heavy-transport sectors.
Our approach is simple
Take meaningful steps today, plan responsibly for tomorrow, and adopt improvements as early as it is practical and effective to do so.
Our Current Sustainability Actions
We have already implemented a range of carbon-reducing and energy-saving initiatives across Sussex Transport
We continue to introduce electric vehicles where operationally appropriate, reducing fuel usage and lowering emissions for local and urban movements.
This includes:
- Fully electric company & support vehicles
- Electric forklift trucks
- Ongoing assessment of new heavy-vehicle technologies as they emerge
Our warehouses and office areas now operate on low-energy LED lighting, reducing electricity usage significantly while increasing lighting quality for safer working conditions.
This change alone has already created a measurable reduction in annual energy consumption.
Our drivers receive ongoing training in fuel-efficient, economical, and sustainable driving techniques, with a focus on:
- Smooth acceleration and braking
- Reduced idling
- Route optimisation
- Lower-emission driving behaviours
All warehouse forklifts have now transitioned to electric units where feasible, reducing emissions, noise, and on-site fuel dependence, and contributing to cleaner, safer indoor working environments.
We have removed traditional gas-powered boiler systems and upgraded to electric heating, reducing reliance on fossil-fuel sources and improving heating efficiency across our sites.
Every vehicle in our fleet is tracked through advanced telematics that monitor:
- Fuel consumption
- Braking habits
- Idle time
- Speed efficiency
- Route performance
Sustainable Lifting, Logistics & Operations
Sustainability extends into all divisions of Sussex Transport — including lifting solutions, HIAB operations, machine moves, storage, and training.
Our approach includes:
- Efficient load planning to reduce wasted journeys
- Maximising vehicle capacity for fewer emissions per tonne
- Using appropriate lifting equipment to reduce idle machinery time
- Collaborative project planning to minimise site visits and movements
- Safe working practices that reduce environmental and operational risk
Working Together Toward Cleaner Logistics
Whether moving goods, lifting equipment, storing materials, or training teams, we believe sustainability must be built into everyday operational decisions.
If you are a customer with sustainability targets of your own, our team can work with you to ensure your logistics, storage and lifting solutions support your ESG aims.
