Delivering Giant Snowdogs to Brighton

With our varied fleet of HIAB, flatbed and artic trucks we are familiar with moving sculptures, statues, artifax and more unusual and abnormal loads – so when we were approached to be the haulage provider for a local charity event coming to Brighton and Hove this weekend – we leapt at the challenge!

It’s quite a task delivering and installing 45 giant dog sculptures – but one we can’t wait to get our teeth into…

Snowdogs by the Sea, an extraordinary public art trail, will hit the streets of Brighton & Hove for 9 weeks from 24th September.

The magical sculpture trail will feature around 46 giant Snowdogs,  inspired by the much-loved animated short film, The Snowman™ and The Snowdog, based on the book by Raymond Briggs.

Each Snowdog will be individually decorated by different artists and generously sponsored by local businesses.   The trail is being organized by local charity,  Martlets  Hospice,  in conjunction with Wild in Art, one of the UK’s leading creative producers of public art events.

Artists have been commissioned to design each of the  Snowdogs,  ensuring  a  unique  identity  for  each  one.  The idea follows in the footsteps  of  similar  projects  run  by Wild  in  Art in  other  cities  such  as The  Big  Hoot  in Birmingham  and Gromit  Unleashed  in  Bristol.

At  the  end  of  the event each Snowdog will be auctioned to raise  funds  for  the  hospice.

Snowdogs  by  the  Sea is  expected  to  raise  significant funds  for  the  hospice  and  attract  tens  of  thousands  of  visitors  to  Brighton  and  Hove  in  the autumn.

Imelda  Glackin,  Martlets  Hospice  CEO  said,  ‘’We  are  delighted  to  announce  the  dates  for  this much  anticipated  public  art  event.  We  have  been  overwhelmed  by  the support  of  local businesses, artists, community groups and schools who have all come together to enable us to create  this  unique  trail.  We  know  that  the  people  of  Brighton  and  Hove  will  get  behind  it,  and  we  expect  it  to  attract  thousands  of  tourists  to  the  city  too.  What  is  wonderful  about  this project is that as well as being a brilliant, free event, which everyone can enjoy, it will also raise vital  funds  for  Martlets  so  that  we  can  support  and  care  for  more  people  who  need  hospice care.’’

Artists  from  the  city,  as  well  as  further  afield,  have  been  selected  by  sponsors  to  create  a unique identity and design for each Snowdog.    Many artists have  drawn  inspiration  from  Brighton’s  unique  history,  seafront  location  &  iconic architecture.

Brighton  resident  &  DJ  Norman  Cook,  AKA  Fatboy  Slim,  has  commissioned  well known  street  artist, Ryca  to  create  his  Snowdog,  whilst  crime  author,  Peter  James,  is  likely  to have a police themed  Snowdog in a nod to his best selling, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, series.
