Burt Bacharach wrote the music for the famous song, originally sung by Dionne Warwick in 1968 and has been covered by many artists including Connie Francis, The George Shearing Quintet, The Avalanches, The Baja Marimba Band, The Temptations and The Supremes together, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Starlite Orchestra, De Phazz, the Carpenters, the Ian Levine-produced group Croisette, and Stunt Monkey, a local San Jose punk band.

Dionne Warwick won her first Grammy Award with ‘’Do you know the way to San Jose’’ and states that it was the highlight of her career, but stated, ‘’it’s a dumb song and I didn’t want to sing it, but it was a hit and I’m happy it was successful!’’
